Ascend Business Consulting was built on a simple belief.  Australian service business owners don't need to scale like startups or copy enterprise playbooks.  You need right-sized systems for your appropriate scale - whether that's solo brilliance or a thriving team of ten.

We're Jamie Cornes and Judy Sargeant.  We've spent decades watching brilliant operators work themselves to exhaustion.  Nobody taught them how to build businesses that don't need them.  That's why we built Ascend differently.

Most business coaching in Australia pushes a single definition of success: grow bigger, scale faster, exit for millions.  But here's what we've learned working with service businesses from solo operators to ten-person teams.  Real success means understanding your appropriate scale and how to operate brilliantly there.

The question isn't "how do I become big business?"  The question is "what's my appropriate scale, and how do I operate brilliantly there?"

A solo windmill technician earning $250K with perfect work-life balance doesn't need to hire staff.  A ten-person plumbing business doing $2M doesn't need to become a twenty-person chaos factory.  Small isn't always a stepping stone - it's also a legitimate choice that deserves systems built for that reality.

Jamie knows what it's like to feel trapped in your own business.  He's spent 25+ years working across organisations.  He learned process improvement methodologies in enterprise environments, then adapted them for Australian service businesses.  Along the way, he's watched brilliant operators work themselves to exhaustion.  Unable to take a holiday.  Incapable of delegating.  Convinced that nothing works unless they do it themselves.

Jamie's also seen the flip side.  Small business owners are told to "think like a big company" or "scale at all costs."  Most just want to operate brilliantly at a size where work is meaningful and sustainable.

That's when Jamie realised something powerful.  The sophisticated systems that work in large organisations work beautifully at service business scale - when properly adapted, not copied.

Over the past fifteen years, he's worked with tradies and professionals like Darryn the plumber, Tom the electrician, and Sarah the lawyer.  He's helped them document the systems in their heads, build delegation skills, and create businesses that don't collapse when they take a holiday.

Jamie learned process improvement inside enterprise organisations. But his work now is translating those tools into practical systems that actually work for $80K–$3M service businesses - not corporate bloat, just clarity and execution.

Judy knows what it feels like to work alone and spin your wheels.  She's been there - staring at a to-do list with seventeen priorities, knowing she should be doing the important work but finding forty-seven reasons to do something else instead.  The isolation.  The procrastination.  The conviction that you're somehow the problem.

Judy has 22+ years building and running service businesses.  She ran a nine-year cleaning franchise (James Home Services), winning Best Service awards every year.  She ran a five-year nationwide transport company (SMC Consolidated Holdings).  She ran an eight-year manufacturing venture in Malaysia (SAM Abrasivi).

She understands what it takes to recruit teams, manage operations, win in competitive markets, and execute consistently when no one's watching.

She's built businesses from scratch.  She's managed team members across multiple locations.  She's won clients through service excellence and kept them through relentless execution.  And she knows firsthand that the difference between businesses that survive and businesses that thrive isn't strategy - it's daily accountability.

That's why she facilitates the Accountability Program with a blend of warmth, structure, and zero tolerance for excuses.  Daily stand-ups aren't lectures - they're fifteen-minute conversations where you state your priority, your peer group listens, and Judy keeps you focused on what actually matters.

How Jamie and Judy Work Together:

Judy facilitates all daily stand-ups, weekly workshops, and weekly planning sessions for the Accountability Program.  Jamie designed the program framework based on 25+ years of consulting with Australian SMEs and joins key strategic sessions throughout the six weeks.

For clients who start with Strategic Consulting and transition to the Accountability Program Manager Track, Jamie and Judy team up to provide ongoing execution support - ensuring the strategic plan doesn't gather dust.
